[edit] First challenge: national and international promotion
The global open source community have maybe 90 percent males? But such a platform needs both, males and females in a appropriate rate. We can create and design such a platform with the open source community, but thats maybe not the right way to reach the women. Without women - no platform for love and dating. I think thats a hard rule. The promotion must reach the females and the males in the world.
[edit] Second challenge: fake control
The compliance of the community rules would needs only the community. In such a open global project, every people can report a bad member. But the challenge is the fake control with the joining. Also the most commercial projects have a big fake problem: they know only, that the paying males are authentic. The females will mostly not control. There are realy much fakes on every commercial dating site. They utilize natural pictures and texts, so that no normal control can expose the fake entry. Thats mostly not females, but rather young males which make bad jokes to other males.
This is why a perfect open platform need a real fake control for every new member who join the platform. Every member must be authentic.

Among the basic best-of-features from all the dating sites, like the basic search options, national/regional distinctions, last member visits etc, own texts, forums and the picture upload, a perfect platform needs also the chance to upload a own video (and maybe a webcam?), so that singels not just need a unsafe meet to realize if the other is not the right. In addition the platform needs a "psychologic matchmaking", so that people can found mates with a similar mind. This machtmaking could develop by interested scientists together with the community.
As an extra feature the platform could get much design templates from the community, so that every people can select his/her favorite design. Interested radio stations and private webmasters could integrate the platform in their own sites.
